I had my favorite group of midwives that are "semi-retired" making big changes in their areas of the country and expertise wheelhouses! Cathy Gordan is running for office again and advocating strong for Kansas midwifery autonomy right. Carolyn Gegor is expanding access to midwifery ultrasound education in person and online to bridge the barrier to midwifery ultrasound certification opportunities. Hilary Schlinger is helping midwifery schools and access to midwifery services on state levels all over the country with her extensive educational advocacy background. She is helping a midwife program start in Florida, consulting for multiple state agencies to increase midwifery education and funding for midwifery services through grants and research work. Each of these ladies I simply admire their passions, tenacity, and determination to be continually improving access to midwifery well into retirement years!

Jenny West, CPM and I spoke about the deep topic how can we support midwives and our clients through tough birth experiences. There is so much abuse and trauma occurring around the birth profession. We love to help midwives get through the trauma, so it doesn't get held onto for years and stop being a barrier to caring for families at our full potential as a midwife!

Augustine Colebrook, Midwife & Owner of Midwifery Wisdom Collectives, spoke with me today about our amazing consultation services and the vital need for midwives to do a paradigm shift about collaboration and opportunities available to us. We are in a critical place in midwifery history with massive demands and burnout all over the US and world. Families are wanting midwives more than ever and many practices aren't equipped on the business side to handle that influx of demand. This was a great discussion about midwifery history, barriers we see and what to do about them, and resources available to help midwives be long term sustainable.

I wanted to do a different style of talk this time around. Most of my conversations tend to be business related and more serious in nature. This one was a fun talk between Deidre DeGrado, CPM and I talking about our craziest midwifery experiences and how we handled them and things we wished would have done differently. Please learn from our fun adventures and many more to your midwifery journey!

Lilly Mason, CPM was driven to be a midwife since 3yr old playing with her dolls and always surrounding herself with pregnancy advocacy. It was not until pre-med school and being invited to her friend's homebirth that a life altering professional direction occurred to learn what a midwife really is. Once she saw that homebirth experience, she shifted from Obstetrician training to midwifery and never looked back.
Second half of talk Lilly goes into her 2yr journey of writing a book about first trimester symptom relief from the angle of midwifery wisdom. She will eventually have a series of all trimesters completed and spread the knowledge she gives her clients to all the pregnant women looking for answers that may not be easily available with Google! Great interview and look forward to talking to her again once book is published.
